I work in a place that prides itself in one of its many mottos – “Work, Life, Balance.” The premise here, is that an employee can find time to find time for a social life, family life, and yet lead a fulfilling and productive life at work. Well… That is far from the truth. The reality is, that this place, and many like it use a scheduling system called KRONOS, and when you are at the mercy of such system, that whole Work Life Balance bull crap flies out the window.
The result is a place where people feel they cant have much of a life outside of work; you have miserable employees; unmotivated employees, and most importantly you have employees with no passion. Take away the simple things from any human being, and they become unsettled – but constantly push the notion of Work Life Balance, and you make that unsettled employee frustrated, and in all honesty look for a way out.
What happened to the old days, when your supervisor / manager took the time to get to know you, and your life outside of work, thus developing a connection with you, and finding a schedule that best suits you.
All work and no play makes jack a dull boy.
